Details
As part of the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir’s Voices of the Spirit programming, In-Choir-ing Minds offers a concert-week educational opportunity for the community to engage more deeply with themes of conflict, reconciliation, and national identity as reflected in the American Civil War. On Tuesday, May 12 at 7:00 PM, guest presenter Audrey Johnson brings her one-hour, Civil War–era program to the In-Choir-ing Minds series to explore how song helped define American identity during a time of profound national division. Johnson is a Mezzo-Soprano and founder of Of Thee I Sing: American Heritage Through Song, a patriotic performance company that uses historical music, images, costumes, and audience participation to bring American history to life. This free, public forum complements the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir’s May 17 concert—featuring works by Jeffrey Van and Mozart—by advancing ISC’s educational mission to deepen understanding, foster meaningful dialogue, and make choral music accessible, relevant, and resonant for singers, students, and the wider community.
