A gritty memoir of homecoming by bicycle and how opening our hearts to others enables us to open our hearts to ourselves.
During summer 2010, Heidi pedaled solo from Eugene, OR, to Washington, DC, studying bicycle tourism and rural economic development. She was in a low place in life and hoped the ride would free her from what was holding her back. Her experience with caring strangers and the intense heat in the middle of the country brought changes she didn't expect - she fell in love with America and came home to her own tender heart.
Heidi Across America is a slow travel adventure, and Heidi discusses the principles of slow travel that enable anyone to create a transformative outdoor experience for themselves.
