Explore emotion and memories through a poetic series of black-and-white images by a recent Herron School of Art and Design graduate.

"If I Stay Before I Leave" is a selection of traditional black-and-white photographs by Torry Brown (B.F.A. Photography ’22), a photographer born and raised in southern Indiana. The exhibition will feature over 20 images in all formats, each scanned from the original negatives and printed digitally.

Through a poetic imaging practice, Brown’s recent work addresses the feelings of an experience and emphasizes the pliability of memory that inevitably follows those fleeting moments. The images in the exhibition probe the delicate dynamic between feeling a part of and apart from a landscape.

"If I Stay Before I Leave" will be on view in the school's Marsh Gallery from June 15 through Aug. 31, 2022. A closing reception will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31.
