Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Northwest District in partnership with H.O.P.E. Team and Sojos Capital hosts an open house providing information about grants related to b-link initiative. Local businesses can apply to receive $2,500 grants to install b-link Indy technology to provide live streaming video access to the IMPD’s Incident Analysis Center.
The City of Indianapolis b-link technology grant program - administered by the Indy Public Safety Foundation and Downtown Indy, Inc. - is designed to support the City's community violence reduction efforts by providing financial assistance to enable the purchase, installation and setup of more IMPD remotely-accessible cameras in and around local businesses and commercial properties throughout Marion County.
In 2017, IMPD and the Indy Public Safety Foundation (IPSF) began working to bring this cutting-edge technology to Indianapolis to deter, identify, prevent and solve crimes. The b-link program has two crucial components. b-link Indy allows both businesses and residents to register camera locations with IMPD. b-link Pro provides IMPD Incident Analysis Center live streaming video from public-facing cameras that can be accessed by incident analysis detectives when a call for service or a report of a public safety threat is made near the call location. Once accessed, this video provides responding officers with critical information in real time to help them better prepare for the situation. This technology allows for enhanced safety for both officers and the community. The technology also acts as a force multiplier for public safety as a ‘digital witness in many cases’.IMPD Northwest officers including deputy chief Kendale Adams will be available on Wednesday, March 15 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. to answer questions and help businesses complete the online form.
Participation in b-link requires certain technology requirements and may require installation or monthly fees. Businesses can apply for a $2,500 grant via an online application until Friday, March 17, 2023.
