The Michael A. and Laurie Burns McRobbie Emerging Artist Series at Herron is designed to support national and international emerging artists from diverse backgrounds through a variety of public lectures, residencies, and exhibitions, while also advancing learning experiences for students, faculty, and community members across campus. The first exhibition in this annual series will feature Tarik Carroll, a New York-based photographer, body positivity activist, and visual artist.
Carroll's commercial work has appeared in several major publications and media outlets, including Teen Vogue, People Magazine, and The New York Times. This exhibition will expand his artistic practice into a gallery setting while broadening our notion of accepted body types, particularly those of people of color.
Carroll will speak at Herron from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, in conversation with Herron Galleries Director and Curator Joseph Mella. A reception will follow.
