Details
The Indianapolis Propylaeum kicks off a year-long celebration of 100 years in its historic headquarters. The event begins with remarks by Colette Pierce Burnette, CEO of Newfields, and Jennifer Pace Robinson, President, and CEO of The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. A reception follows the ceremony.
The Propylaeum and its Delaware Street facility have been integral to the Indianapolis community. With roots in suffrage and activism, the 134-year-old Propylaeum is a place that connects and celebrates women. Organization Founders chose the Greek word "gateway" to signify that the organization would be the gateway for women’s leadership and culture in Indianapolis.
Few organizations in Central Indiana have had the historical impact as the Indianapolis Propylaeum. The Ribbon Tying Ceremony brings together the community organizations that accredit their beginnings to Propylaeum's founders, most notably May Wright Sewall. Among these legacy institutions are Newfields, The Children's Museum, The Contemporary Club, the Herron School of Art and Design, The Indianapolis Council of Women, and The Indianapolis Woman's Club.
